Franklin Gothic Film Poster

This is a poster for a hypothetical film about the Typeface Franklin Gothic. It was created in the Typography II class at the School of Design at Louisiana Tech University.

When doing research on the typeface I discovered that it was named after Benjamin Franklin, but I could not find a reason why Morris Fuller Barton named his typeface after the esteemed scientist, Benjamin Franklin. I thought that this had a sense of humor, so i decided to go a more playful route for the poster. Then, that led me to thinking maybe it is a movie teaching kids about the typeface. The Franklin Gothic typeface also has somewhat of a quirky aspect to it, having a unique double story "g" and "a." It is geometric, while also having thick and thin lines.

The portrait of Franklin is created from manipulating characters in the typeface Franklin Gothic. The two storied "g" is unique to the typeface, so it is highlighted as his glasses.
